Any object, member, or system which gradually becomes a smaller dimension at one end when compared to the other.

Commonly, roof [[insulation]] is tapered on a flat roof, to allow for the automatic drainage of rain water to a [[scupper]].
In other instances, certain parts of a member may be tapered, such as the [[flange flanges]] in an [[IBeam i-beam]].
