A Substrate is any material or system that is designed specifically to support, carry, or anchor another material or system to.
For example, in a low slope roof system, the substrate may be a layer of 3/4" plywood.
Substrates do not necessarily have to be paneled sheet systems; lightweight concrete decks, or precast concrete planks may also be considered substrates.
