Reinforcement is any entity that is introduced into a system to:

• Resist tension forces
• Reinforce edges of openings in concrete slabs
• Minimize shrinkage cracking
• Control thermal expansion or contraction

There are generally two categories of reinforcement:

1. Structural- typically resists shear and tension forces, and sometimes compression
2. Temperature- primarily used to resist shrinking and cracking with small rebar

The most common types of reinforcement are rebar bars and welded wire fabrics
