Rebar, a system of reinforcement, is a round solid bar stock that can be produced either smooth or deformed (deformed rebar improves bond strength with concrete).
When manufactured, rebar will be tagged with several markings which will include:

• Mill- where it was made
• Size- the size of the bar, marked as #x where each x refers to a nominal 1/8" diameter (in the U.S.)
• Type of steel
• Yield- the grade of rebar, representing yield strength in PSI

An alternative to rebar is welded wire fabric
