Any component, or series of components, located in the center of a double swing or double slide door system, which is commonly attached to the inactive panel. It can also be applied to both panels, meeting when the doors are closed. Usually, the astragal can be released at the top and bottom, allowing both panels to be active. Its purpose is to prevent a panel from swinging through the door opening, and to provide a weather seal.
