Sketchup Shadows Tutorial

Welcome to the Shadows tutorial. To have accurate shadows in your model, you must first tell Sketchup where the model exists in the world. Open the Model Info window from the Window menu, and open the Location tab. Here you may choose your country and exact location. We'll randomly assign a location for this example. You must also tell Sketchup which direction North is in your model. Typically, the default Green axis acts as the North direction, but you may modify that here and view the angle in your primary view by selecting the Show in Model option. Open your Shadows window from the Window menu, and turn Shadows on by checking the Display Shadows option. Here you can select the time of day, and day of year to render your shadows in for an accurate rendering. You may also adjust the intensity of the shadows, and globally turn shadows on and off for where you want shadows to be cast. By opening the Entity Info window from the Window menu, you are able to control individual elements, and determine if lines, faces, groups, or components will cast shadows, or receive them.
