A form of [[insulation]], thermal insulation is designed to retard the transmission of heat from one space or assembly to another. To generalize and conceptualize, the best insulator is Air, and so thermal insulation is based on the concept of trapping large amounts of air into non-circulating positions. Because thermal insulation is based on the use of air, it rarely acts as an efficient [[AcousticInsulation acoustic insulation]].

Thermal Insulation is commonly applied in two forms, batts and boards of rigid insulation:
