Eminent Domain
eminent domain is the right a government or quasi-governmental entity has to seize the property owned by an individual or other entity. This process is called condemnation, and involves court action where the government must prove the necessity to seize the property for the public good (IE the construction of a highway or road system which would stimulate the local economy). Additionally, the government must compensate the private owner of the property, although said compensation need not exceed current market value for the property.
