Acoustic Insulation
Acoustic Insulation is any material, assembly, or device that is installed specifically to reduce or eliminate sound transfer from one space to another. Acoustic insulation works in the exact opposite conceptual way as thermal insulation. The more air (the less the density) in thermal insulation, the better it performs; conversely, the less air (and the more dense the insulator material) in acoustic insulation, the better it performs. Although it is true certain celled materials (such as foam) may act as acoustic insulation by forcing sound waves to travel from cell to cell, such acoustic insulation is unreliable. Generally, the denser and heaver a material, the greater it will perform as acoustic insulation.
